DIY Bird Feeder for Earth Day

With Earth Day coming up, I am trying to think of ways to honor the day with my 2 year old son. At his age, it is a little difficult to get into too much explanation of Earth Day but I still wanted to get him involved in doing something good. He loves animals and loves feeding the birds so using a recycled toilet paper roll to make a bird feeder seemed like a great activity! This is so simple, even my 1 year old nephew made one.

What you need:

Toilet paper roll(s)

Peanut Butter Bird Seed

Twine or String

Step 1: Use a small spatula, or popsicle stick to spread peanut butter all over the toilet paper roll. Make sure to cover the whole thing.

Step 2: Pour bird seed into a small bowl. You can either have your child roll the toilet paper roll in the seed or have them sprinkle it on. Rolling is definitely quicker but sprinkling it on, made it a more time consuming activity.

Step 3: Put your twine or string through the toilet paper roll and tie it together in a loop.

Hang it on a tree and wait for the birds to come!
